AP Research · Unit 2: Reviewing the Literature
2.3 Synthesizing the Field
Mapping the debate
Synthesizing the literature means mapping how scholars agree, disagree, and build on one another — grouping sources by theme, method, or position.
Identifying patterns
Look for patterns: common findings, recurring methods, and open disagreements. These patterns reveal the shape of the field and where the gap lies.
Theoretical framework
A theoretical framework is the set of concepts or theories you use to interpret your topic. It guides your question, method, and analysis.
